I'm chasing the best and smallest linux distro, that is specific to wireless. i have been look at, LRP (linux router project) - outdated, chronic lack of support - fits on floppy master-www.linuxrouter.org:8080/WRP (wireless router project) Zero support - easy to cinfigure - PPP doesnt seem to work at all.- fits on floppy nocat.net/download/WRP/FreeSCO - Pleanty of support - PPP works ok - havent tested the networking side yet but looks good - REALLY easy to configure - No wireless tools included - fits on floppy www.freesco.org/Peanut Linux - 150m download - 350 installed - all the bells and whistles of a full on install - massive support - easy to install - yet to try and find and install some wireless tools on this www.ibiblio.org/peanut/Wireless tools for linux - www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/Tools.htmlIf someone knows of a good working, easily configurable and preferably fits on a floppy distro of linux, that includes support for - wireless - PPP and anything else that you think would be great for a router/server please post it, and your results ! Thanks

Not linux but... I have found openBSD www.openbsd.org/ great for standard cable based routing and I remember reading they have just added wireless support, ported across from the freeBSD tree(if I remember right). Standard install with no extras is around 70Mb which can be cut down futher to around 50Mb but I have always left things like perl, apache and other general utilities. I am waiting on a 2 wireless cards to arrive and plan on using openBSD to route between the air and cable. I will keep you abreast of my findings. Troy

Mikrotik looks fun, and not to expensive for a commercial product. I notice there charging extra for wireless modules....But linux/unix/BSD can do this free, it's just a matter of time for a distro to appear.
I have a feeling FreeSCO is going to be one of the first free working easy to use wireless distro's around.

I agree Nick The Mikrotik was ok cause it had a simple gui interface and the richer among us may like it.
With some help (I R Linux cretin) we managed to produce (compile) additional drivers in the past for freesco. PCMCIA on the other hand, gets a little harder as it is a two fold problem. First enabling port support then the device driver, I'd have to check if the the slackware distro (V2.4 from memory)used to compile the sat driver, even supports PCMCIA. I'm about to play with WRP with a standard PCMCIA nic as I don't have a wireless one yet (Its only day 2)
Cheers all
